Hello, I am attempting to find any information for a Johanna with the last name variants (Meara, O'Meara, Mara, O'Mara). Born to Father Patrick and Mother Mary in approximately 1831/32 (info from death certificate in the US), she immigrated to the U.S. in approximately 1848-1850 and setteled on Long Island, NY. I cannot say for certain that she is originally from this parish or even County Tipperary for that matter but it would seem that the vast majority of families in Ireland with those last names originated from County Tipperary. Unfortunately I have no difinitive information as to siblings but any information that might be uncovered would be greatly appreciated. My research has produced last names with the possible spelling variations I have indicated above. A recent discovery from another volunteer in Roscrea has shown a possible match but the name appears written in Latin. Baptism on April 4, 1833 in Ballylooby church records showing a Johannam Magher, with a father Patricii and mother Mariae Coffy. It is my understanding that those Latin name spellings would translate into Baptized child: Johanna... father: Patrick and mother: Mary. Any information regarding that or any other entry matching the inquiry would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has specific knowledge of Clan Meagher/Magher and the various surnmaes names derived from them it would be very helpful.

Thank you very kindly in advance for any efforts in assiting me.

  • Roger,

OH, ok I didn't realize that. I thought they only went out to the specific parish they were posted to.

    Sorry for over-posting then,
