Hi, I'm Teresa from New Zealand. I am trying to find info on the parents of my 4th GGFather Richard John Carr(1834 - 1898?) I believe he was born in Balleyconnel, to Michael and Johanna Carr. I have been unable to find anything on either parents, though I'm pretty new to this. I would be grateful for any info that would help expand my search.
thankyou
Teresa Maru, nee Carr

  • Hi Teresa

For ancestors connected to Ballyconnell town, please join the IrelandXO community of Tomregan (Cavan) where you can create an ancestor profile for them and create messages for the local volunteer. There are also numerous townlands called Ballyconnell in Ireland.

Was Richard Carr Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic? Couldn't find any record of Michael & Johanna Carr baptising children in CO. Cavan. However, the name Richard Carr appears in the Church of Ireland parish of Kilmore (Cavan) as early as 1712.

Carr may also appear on record as Corr or Kerr

    Hope this helps!

  • Teresa and Rua,

I found the following in Co. Wicklow...

A transcription at RootsIreland shows Richard Carr of the townland of Mull[a]ns, Co. Wicklow, was baptized in the RC parish of Killaveney on 29 Jan 1832. Parents Michael Carr, Judith Fleming.  Sponsors: Peter Fleming, Mary Byrne.

Mullans townland is perhaps 10 miles from Ballyconnell townland in Co. Wicklow.

There were a number of children born to this couple and listed in the RootsIreland index. The mother is called Judy, Joana, Judith, etc.

  • Hi Rua,
I have also found a Richard Carr and Hannah Headly from around 1700. I'm unsure if they are relatives as yet but suspect they could be. thankyou for the info. I had no idea there was more than one Ballyconnel!
    Thanks
    Teresa
