Hi - new member seeking information about my great grandparents, John J. O'Reilly, born Mar. 1818 in townland of Springfield, and Mary Bridget Guilfoyle, born Nov. 1827 in Co. Galway. Unsure whether my great grandfather was born in Co. Offaly or Co. Westmeath - both Roman Catholic. They had their first child, John, 12 Nov. 1853 in Springfield and left for USA in 1856, where they lived in Chicago. In 1841 my great grandmother attended Misses Goldings Seminary School in Galway. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Joe
Apologies for the late reply - it is possibly because there was no information to give you. Have had another look at your query and can find no records of John's birth to the parents mentioned in 1853. Also no trace of a marriage between John and Mary Bridged Guilfoyle for approx 10 years previously. I don't know where Springfield is - it is not a familiar name to me in Co Offaly, but could be a small townsland. If you wish to post the birth records that you have for John in 1853 or any other documents you have I could have another look. Also a Seminary was usually for men who were studying for the priesthood, but this may have been another type of school. If have further information we may be able to help.
Kind regards
Margaret
