John Shanley bc 1813 was convicted in Yorkshire in 1835, and recorded he was from Roscommon.  He was transported to Van Diemen's land, and worked in Hobart, marrying to Mary Ann TOLL in 1845, in St Joseph's Catholic Church. He had a number of Children, Margaret, Mary Ann, John and William, the latter born in 1852.

John seems to have left Van Diemen's Land in 1853, and gone to look for gold in Victoria.  A John SHANLAY died at Beechworth, Victoria, in 1857, and his death record shows he was from Frenchpark in Roscommon. We believe this was our John, but which parish is Frenchpark a part of in Roscommon.

I am descended from his youngest child, William 1852-1938.

Hoping to find some family who might be connected to our John, Cheers, Warren in Brisbane.

PS In 1869 his daughter, Mary Ann Shanley married to Robert CHERRY of the 2Bn 14th Regiment of Foot, a Maori War Veteran, and late of ARMAGH. We think they returned to that county around 1870 or so.
