Am searching for birthplace and relatives of William Hendy McCann who was born 13 November 1850 supposedly in Killeshin.   The family left Ireland sometime after his birth, moving to America.  I do not know if his father and mother and siblings accompanied him to America.   He became Amierican citizen in 1880; then died 1895; leaving widow Addie Patterson McCann and two sons, John E. and Fredrick Harrison McCann in Springfield, Missouri, USA.  I am not certain that his middle name was Hendy; although marriage records (index) reveal a possible father of William Hendy McCann as a William McCann marrying Catherine Hendy in Dublin before 1850.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I did a search on Roots Ireland for Co. Laois from 1845-1855 for a William McCann. Only one record came up, in the Doonane RC parish which is just to the west of Killeshin. The baptismal date (see transcription below) was in August 1850. This couple also had a James in 1848 and a Mary in 1852. The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killeshin parish does show a Henry McCann in the town of Killeshin. So I would treat both records as possible leads.

You may also want to search www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Dublin city church records.

Let me know if you have questions.
