I am researching the surnames Barber, Elliott, Foley, Franey, and Tobin from the Mayo and Doonane parish. My 2nd great-grandparents were James J. Foley (1841-1916) and Margaret Tobin (1842-1914) who married at the Mayo Church in Crettyard in May 1860. Shortly thereafter, they immigrated to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania with James' brothers Timothy (1848-1906) and Patrick Foley (1850-1901) as well as Margaret's brother, James Tobin (1845-1906). James Foley had three sisters who remained in Ireland - Margaret (who married Daniel Kilroy), Bridget (whom I believe married Thomas Nash), and Mary (name of husband unknown). James' parents were named Edward Foley and Margaret Franey. His maternal grandparents were Andrew Franey and Mary Elliott. Margaret Tobin's parents were named Richard John Tobin and Margaret Nora Barber. Both the Tobins and Foleys had farms in the Clonbrock area. If anyone else is researching these families, please contact me.

Hi Jen,
I believe your Mary Foley's (unnamed husband) is Patrick Muldowney a coal miner. Their daughter Maria (Mary) Muldowney was my 3x Great Grandmother and on her marriage record it indicates she was from Clonbrock. Maria Muldowney married James Connell March 5, 1848 in Doonane (Laois) they had a son Michael prior to marrying. No doubt a scandal. They migrated to Lanarkshire, Scotland where James worked as a coal miner and they had an additional 5 children there. Maria Connell nee Muldowney died in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1869 (April 13th) aged 46 due to respiratory issues.

Hi Jamie,
I see you posted this on September 18th but I only received notification of it today, so sorry for the delayed response. The Mary Foley I mentioned was baptized on July 18, 1848 so could not be the mother of your Maria Muldowney. But they could still be related. Send me an email at jefoley8@gmail.com and we can talk some more.
