My great great grandfather Michael Quinlin was born in Queens Co (now Co Laois) in 1844. Believed to have emigrated to the US about 1861. Served for a short time with a Maryland unit with the Union Army during the Civil War. Married Bridget Agnes McEvilly in Wilmington, Delaware in 1865. One of his witnesses (per Sacramental Records) was William Quinlin, relationship unknown. He and Bridget Agnes had 11 children. Michael died in Pennsylvania in 1906 and is buried in St. John's Cemetery, Newark, Delaware. I am learning about his life in the US but know little about his life in Ireland.Ireland Reaching Out - www.irelandxo.com

  • Hi Pat,

If you search baptisms / births on rootsireland.ie for Quinlin Michael Laois 1844 + - 1 year you will get Michael Quinlan baptised 1843.

rootsireland is a pay site so you may choose to invest a few $ to get the parents' names and the parish.

Similarly, there are 3 William Quinlans so if you get Michael's parents you can search to get the right William.

Once you have the parish you can contact the Laois experts on the site to give you more details about their life in Ireland.
