Does anyone know whether the small walled 'garden?' in Railway Street is actually a remnant of the old St.Peters churchyard, whether there are any remaining gravestones, and if, as I presume, it is kept locked?
My wife's ancestor Thomas Mosse (father of Bartholomew and my wife's ancestor Andrew) was a rector here, and another ancestor Stephen Fletcher was a later curate here.

The ols St Peters graveyard is indeed locked at all times, but the key can be assessed by application.
A lot of the headstone's are un-stable as is the old remains within the gates.
The Laois Heritage Society are trying to get the site restored, but the cost of such a venture is very high.
A list of readable headstones is available, but most stones have suffered from years of weather.

Thanks very much for that information.
Particularly interested to see the burial of Mrs Mosse, relict of Peter as I was missing her burial date. 1818 sounds about right as Peter Mosse died in 1810. This must be Mary (Nickson) Mosse, sister of Christiana (Nickson) Hely-Hutchinson. Is this a St.Peter's burial?
I would like to think I was related to John Hely(-Hutchinson) but as yet unable to determine my Townland of origin.
