I am coming to Rathdowney in June and July to find cemeteries and connections to Edmund Hewson, a taylor 1800- 1882 and wife Martha Twiss of Rathdowney about 1804-1887 (came to Ohio USA  with her grandchildren. Their son Joseph married Jane Doyle 17 sept 1856 at St thomas Dublin, signed by her father George Doyle and Joseph's father Edmund Hewson. Many of Joseph's family born in Dublin on Portland St died at Donaghmore at the potato famine including his wife Jane Hewson, but my grandmother Matilda Hewson and brother was taken to Ohio by her grandmother Martha Twiss. I am also looking for ancestors of Jane and george Doyle. I see a Doyle answers some of these messages. Mary Lee Sparling

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Rathdowney shows Edmund Hewson on Church St. See link below. I was unable to locate a civil death index record for Edmund in 1882. I assume you have the record? This web site run by Dr. Jane Lyons who lives in Laois has many cemetery records for Co. Laois  http://www.from-ireland.net/

I will alert Clare Doyle about your message. However, can I suggest that you post a separate message on Jane and George Doyle so that our other volunteers can also see the message and may be able to assist. www.irishgenealogy.ie has Dublin city church records.

    Dear Mary Lee

My husband is the Doyle and his family were originally from the Ringsend side of Dublin and I do not know of any connection to a Jane or George (but I will ask just to be sure). I do know that James is a name carried through from his father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In relation to the Hewson side of your query, Eamonn a volunteer in Roscrea has been in touch to say that he feels that there may possibly be a Roscrea connection still living in the area. I attach the following documents from him. Let me know if you are interested in being put in touch.

    Best wishes

  • Hello,

I am having trouble working out to use this site or would have posted some names but one would have been HEWSON.I believe Edmund would likely have been a connection.

    Regards,
