I'm in the process of tracing my mom's family history and have it a road block on one of her ancestors. It appears that my 4 times great grandfather is a man named Michael Hackett, born about 1824 in Birr Ireland and is married to a women named Margaret and at least one child with the name of Thomas Hackett born 1856, possibly in NY. Does anyone have any informaton on this?

I've done some google searches and I'm able to find a Michael Hackett in Birr Ireland, but the age doesn't match. This Michael Hackett appears to have worked at a distillary in the county. Additionally, I've found other Hackett's in the area, but I've not been able to make any other connects to the Michael born about 1824. It would be great to find his parents or possibly siblings of Michael.

  • Hi,

I don't know if this will help. It might be a bit early for your purposes, but it might be worth checking.

It's the 1821 census of Birr which allows you to view census images of families living in all the streets of the town in that year..  You just go  through one street at at time. It's a bit slow but I found my ancestors in the census this way.
