My great-great Grandparents were Arthur & Ellen Rooney & their daughter, also Ellen was my great grandmother. She was born in 1842 at Moneygall, Kings County. Not sure when she immigrated to Australia
Imformation is very vague as I only have the information from her marriage certicicate when she married my Great grandfather, George Haughton at the Tambo Inn in Queensland Australia on the 17th November 1967. Condition of parties described him as bachelor & her as widow but she had her & her fathers surname as Rooney & her mothers maiden name as Hayes. She was then 25 years of age.Her farther was a farmer.
However on her death certificate her fathers surname is listed as Hayes ( which I think was actually her mothers maiden name) She was 61 when she died at Alpha , Queensland , Australia on the 2nd October 1902. A note of interest, her headstone is still in perfect condition after 112 years.
If anyone can help in anyway I would be most appreciative.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
As you can see from the link below, Castletownely is a Civil Parish in Co. Offaly:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Moneygall and Barna begin in 1820. There are some places where you can search online for Ellen, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However, so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.
www.ancestry.com also has a very comprehensive genealogical database
Other important sources include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these sources only record the head of the household, the information is very important and can be valuable:
Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp
Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too, for instances of the family name at that time
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search
Clare Doyle

I am related to George Haughton in the same way that you are. I am living in Australia. Did you receive any additional information since you posted?

Hello,
I've passed the link here on to a couple of volunteers in the Moneygall area -- pre-1845 when civil registration began can be a very difficult period with few surviving records.

This from a volunteer in Moneygall who has access to the Roman Catholic Parish records:
"The following entries are under the RC Parish Register for the Parish of Dunkerrin (Dunkerrin, Moneygall and Barna areas) for Rooney / Hayes
1/4/1864 (date of baptism)
Jane Rooney Parents Chas. Rooney & Ellen Hayes Moneygall. Sponsor was Hon. Swift.17/7/1865 (date of baptism)
Jas. Rooney Parents Charles Rooney & Ellen Hayes Moneygall. Sponsors Patk. Connell & Bgt. Carroll. There is a Cath Rooney baptised in 16/7/1835 to parents John Rooney & Wfd. Grace (Winifred), Ballinakill. Sponsors Thomas Grace & Mary Meara.
There are no marriage records for Rooney in the Register, and not recorded under Hayes either.
I suspect that if the name Arthur was the father, then it might be C of I, however the records for all Cof I in the Dunkerrin, Moneygall and Shinrone areas are now held in Dublin at their headquarters Church of Ireland House in Rathmines, Dublin 6.
I'll keep working on this, and if i find out any more details i will let you know."
