Hello,Iam tracing my father`s side of the family and I keep coming across the area he was from .It was called Money. He died in this area in 1879,yet I can`t seem to find any trace of this area existing .His death record says he died in the parish of Kilcormac, his address as Money. I can`t find either area. Does anyone have any clues? Thanks.

Money townland is in Ballyboy civil parish. Kilcormac. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilcormac is nearby. Go to Google Maps and look for Kilcormac. Money townland is just to the south 3-4 miles?

The Catholic Church in Kilcormac is the Church of the Nativity.

  • Roger,Thank you so much for the information. Wow,this is just terrific.!  I think my grandfather Michael O`Brien was born there in 1864 before moving to Manchester ,where my dad and his siblings were all born. My dad was actually 64 years old when I was born in 1967,so all the O`Brien`s are long dead, sadly. Unless there are a whole lot of cousins I know nothing about !   As far as I am aware though, I am the only one from the family who made the return trip back to Ireland to live here. Regards,Lisa O`Brien Newry,Co.Down.

  • Hello

I think the townland is Munny not money in Ballyboy Co Offaly

Kilcormac is in Offaly (or Kings County).  There is a web page Kilcormac.com which might be helpful.

When looking up Kilcormac for that time you would have to look up Frankford

There is one O'Brien family in the town of Kilcormac still (check out eircomphonebook and put in o'brien and kilcormac and residential)

The Griffiths Valuations of Irealand was done between 1848 and 1864 - for Ballyboy there are no O'Brien but 3 Brien

Brien Catherine   Ford Mountrath Street   Ballyboy Offaly

Brien John      Ford Fairgreen Street   Ballyboy Offaly

Brien John    Ford Freagh    Ballyboy Offaly

In the Titheapplotment books in 1826 there is a Michael Brien, Munny, Ballyboy, Kings County

Offaly is referred to as Kings County and Kilcormac is referred to as Frankford. Other regional names, locations and bounderies may have changed so it is often worthwhile researching all the available locations.

Hope this might be of some help

  • Wow,Thank you so much for your help Geraldine. It is really appreciated.! I was actually on the phone today to the Offaly Tourist Board, and the woman on the phone had never even heard of Money/Munny. Anyway she found it on the map and told me it is in the middle of nowhere, literally. Google Maps shows fields with cows in it and not much else. There doesn`t appear to be a house or a farm or anything. She said it was way off the beaten track. She said Money townland is 3-4 miles south of Kilcormac but there is no transport, pub, shop ot anything.I explained i didn`t have a car and she strongly advised me against visiting the area as it was so remote. She said i would have no way of getting to it other than to walk. She said a walk from Kilcormac to Money would take almost an hour. All the same, and i said i suppose i could pay for a taxi to take me out there, and just drop me off [in a field!],but she was concerned i would be stranded out there as there would be no way of getting back to say,Ballyboy. But if i were to travel to Offaly ,there is no way i would go all that way and not travel out a bit further to Money ! Anyway, many thanks once again.Lisa O`Brien

  • Lisa do you plan on coming to Ireland in the near future?

If not in the very immediate future - I could try and find out a bit more for you.  I am from Offaly but do not live there now - but I will be down there in the next few weeks.  I could try to contact someone in Ballyboy when I am at home and find out a bit for you.

    Have you any more details?

  • I think that many people ask themselves the question, and what is money for them. Perhaps it was money that became the cause of my addiction to http://aboutcasinoslots.com. But I don’t see anything bad here. Money opens many doors and opportunities. And it is a necessity

  • Sorry I think you misunderstand my post. When I ask where is Money? Money or Munny is the name of a place my grandfather was born.
