I'm looking for information about the Stephensons in Eglish around 1800.  Andrew Stephenson married Mary Leeman about 1814.  They lived at Drumcoote, Creeveroe, Armagh and had at least 6 children (Andrew, Peter, Thomas, Eliza, John and a baby girl).  Andrew was a factor for Mr. [William?} Pooler and probably active in the Orange Order.  He was found dead in a field in about 1825.  His parents Thomas and Anne Stephenson took the daughter-in-law and grandchildren to Stormont, Ontario, Canada about 1826.

Clearly there were several Stephenson families in the Eglish area at that time.  I am interested in learning about our connections.

Regards, Julie

I checked the Eglish records and there was nothing matching your search.  I also checked some of the Armagh records and again nothing to match your search.  There were some Stephensons but none matched the names - no Leemans but Lemon/Lemmon again nothing that could be connected to the names you supplied.

I will try again next time I'm down at PRONI.

  • Hello Julie

I've found the marriage of an Andrew Stevenson and Mary Lemmon which did take place in Eglish on 25th May 1809 [copy attached].  Unfortunately the children don't appear to have been christened in Eglish but the record does say that Andrew was from the Parish of Keady and Mary from Creeveroe.  I also looked for a burial record for Andrew in Eglish but there doesn't appear to be one.
