Hello:
FIRST, I am trying to confirm town/parish for RC ancestor John Carroll (b. 1829) whose US naturalization papers say he emigrated from "Port Aldren, Kings County" in 1850. I am hoping that "Port Aldren" is a US clerk's interpretation of an Irish-accented "Portarlington." John's parents were John (possibly Daniel) Carroll and Mary Quinn. Unfortunately, that is all the information I have re John's Ireland background.
SECOND, my Ford[e] ancestor is also supposed to have emigrated from Kings County--according to family oral tradition. He is Nicholas Ford (the "e" was dropped a few years after his emigration to the US in 1844); his father's name was James (who I do not believe emigrated). I can find no trace at all of Fords in Offaly (Kings). Not much to go on, I know, but ,,,,,
Any help at all would be much appreciated in pursuing these "brick wall" ancestors.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I haven't been able to find a marriage record for the Carroll couple nor any baptisms for children of them. Neither could I find a baptism for Nicholas Ford(e). The earliest Forde baptisms to a father James in Offaly seems to be around 1843. I don't see any James Ford(e) mentioned in the Tithe Applotment nor the Griffith's Valuation. There are some entries for Carroll in the civil parish of Clonyhurk (Portarlington) but it would be difficult to know which, if any, are relevant in your search.
Do you know of anyone else from the area who may have settled near the families your side? Perhaps as part of a wider migration neighbours from the same area traveled together and identifying them might lead you in the right direction.
Best wishes
