If Holycross/Ballycahill records indicate that people were baptised in the Holycross Catholic Church during the mid-1850s, are they referring to the "Abbey" or is there another catholic church in Holycross?

Everything I see on Holycross only refers to the Abbey.  But supposedly it lay in ruins in the 1600/1700s.  At what point was it re-built?   Before or after 1850?   If after, where did the 18050s baptisms actually occur?

Thanks.

  • There was an RC Chapel just west of the ruins of The Abbey - it's shown on the c1837 and 1890 OSI maps.

see RC Chapel Holycross  (c1837 OSI map)

  • Thanks.  Good link.   What about the church which is NW of the chapel?  That's not too far distant.
