Matthew Delaney married Margaret Browne 12 Feb 1849 at Holycross  Sometime between then and 1851 they emigrated to Jersey, Channel Islands.  Would Holycross have been his home parish, her home parish. or just a convenient place for both of them? Neither of the fathers' first names are given, but from Matthew's second marriage in Jersey to Hanorah Gleeson, I believe his father was Thomas Delaney.  Any pointers to any of these families would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Marriages usually took place in the bride's parish - i.e. her current place of resisdence, often, but not always the parish she grew up in, so worth checking for her family in Holycross area.

  • Unfortunately the records for Holycross RC parish only go back to the mid 1830s, but you might be able to locate younger siblings for Margaret or Matthew in the parish records if their families lived in the parish.

Did the marriage transcript include names of witness ?
The can sometimes be family members..

  • Thank you for your suggestions. The marriage record on rootsireland is very sparse with no father's first names but there are witnesses - Thady Tully and Ann Semple, so I'll try and find out about them.
