hello everyone, I am very pleased to have found this project which I hope will enable me to go back further to my irish roots. My g.g.grandfather Michael Donovan was born in Hospital & married in the parish of Hospital&Herbertstown in 1861. His residence was listed as 'Gotoon'. His bride was Mary Eagan/Egan, their first son was Michael, born in Rutland but I don't know where this is?

Hi,
There is a Rutland street in Limerick city (Hunt museum area).
“Could be named after the Duke of Rutland, Lord Lieutenant, who, traveled to Limerick (State visit) in 1785.”
There is also a Rutland, townland name in Carlow and Offaly, Ireland.
To help you further in your research the following information is provided (previously supplied by the Ireland XO office),
Deaths records for the time after 1911 are available from http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm Deaths registered in the island of Ireland between 1st January, 1864 and 31st December, 1921 inclusive and in Ireland (excluding Northern Ireland ) from 1922 onwards.
Irish birth, death and marriages civil registration indexes 1864-1958 can also be found here:http://www.familysearch.org/
Hope this helps your further

Hello Mike
Thanks for your reply. I am rather confused about Rutland as my great grandfather's army records just said born Limerick & the 1911 census of wales where the family moved to says born Rutland. His parents were married in Hospital & Herbertstown, his father was born in Hospital & marriage cert says living in Gotoon. Killmallock was also mentioned. His mother Mary (Egan) was born in Rathannay.
Could Rutland be an error?
