I'm looking for the birth city of Michael Anderson Rogers, b. 1755, Co. Armagh. He left for England early 1772 and in April 1772 was arrested for petty theft and sentenced to 6 yrs. in America, via the Thornton, captained by John Kidd, and arrived in VA in June/July. He served honorably in the Revolutionary War and was at Valley Forge w/ George Washington. In 1791 he married Catherine Troxell and they lived in Greenbrier and Monroe Counties in WV.

Have you any further details regarding this individual - parents/siblings other relatives etc?
Remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

Unfortunately, that's all I have of him for Ireland. The only way we think it is Co. Armagh is because someone in the family had something her father had written about him and stated he was f/ Armagh. I have plenty on him re Revolutionary War here and after he got married and settled in WV. I also have his trial info from England. Everything is sketchy before he arrives in West Virginia. One genealogist showed him married in Dublin to I think, a Winifred Freen, but considering he was only 17 when he left England, that seems unlikely. Thank you for your help.

He was my husband's 3rd ggrandfather. His family is mostly in Kanawha Co.(Dunbar and Scott Depot). We live near Richmond, VA. My husband may have talked to you a couple of years ago when we were doing research as he talked to a relative in Greenbrier. Which son/daughter are you descended from? my email is 3kmjnana@gmail.com. It would be easier to communicate that way. We found his gravesite which I'm sure you're aware of, being so close to it. Nice to meet you. We did find a descendant of the Shaffer/Shaver family who works in the town where we live, Amelia.
