  • It may be a good idea to also post this message in some media in the local area in the hope that any Heffron families in the area see it, or even anyone that remembers the family.

I did a search of the parish online, they have a comment page on their County library page where you will be able to do this. Here is the link:

Some local newspapers where you could possibly post are:

    The Mayo News: http://www.mayonews.ie

    The Mayo Advertiser: http://www.advertiser.ie/mayo

    The Connaught Tribune: http://www.galwaynews.ie/connachttribune

Perhaps you could also try getting in touch with the Mayo Family History Research Centre. A fee may apply for their services. Here are their contact details:

    Family History Research Centre,

    Enniscoe,

    Castlehill,

    Ballina,

    Co. Mayo.

    Phone: (096) 31809   Email: normayo@iol.ie

I hope that these suggestions help you make a connection with someone in the area and further your family history research!

  • Hi

I don't come from the area that you mention in your post, but I am from Mayo and hope I can be of some help

You said your family emigrated after Griffiths, if they left anyone behind they would show up in the 1901/1911 Census.

You can check your family in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37

    http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

And the relatives that might have remained in the 1901-1911 Census

The suggestion above about sending a note/email to the local newspapers is a very good idea, it is quite common for these letters to be featured in the papers.

Ballinrobe is quite near Kilmaine, you might like to browse this website and post a query/article on it.

If you are on Facebook you could join and post a query on the Mayo Genealogy Group Page, some of the members are from Mayo and will be able to provide you with info. on the local area.

  • I have been in touch with the south Mayo Research center, they helped me find a few births from this family and I have located the Griffiths.

I think the whole family moved together - as far as I could tell reseaching the area for other families this was the only family. There was one gentlemen named Michael Heffron but I have no information on him. ... found nothing in the 1901 or 1911 census.

Thank you for all the suggestions!
