I assume the Coghlans were RC. The parish would be Tisraran and records start in 1819. Do you have names and dates for children? Baptismal records should show parents names. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0150

Here is some background on the Revision books from Claire Santry's site http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/revision-books.html  You have to go to the Valuation Office in Dublin to review the records but hopefully somewhere in the future they can be digitized and place online. The same records for Northern Ireland are online at the PRONI site.

Hi Roger, thank you for your message.  I know the father of my 2 x great grandmother; and I suspect that I have the right mother but I am not 100% certain .. yet.  I have a date of birth for her but I have only been able to find the baptism of one Rosanna in 1838 - I am still looking for her siblings.  I have been looking at the parish registers but they are difficult to read due to the Latin, and the terrible handwriting.  So, still a work in progress.  

Since the parish records have gone online through Ancestry and Find my past, I have noticed transcription errors, and despite finding the above mentioned Rosanna, she is not recorded as such in the new online indexes.

Do you know the name of a researcher in Dublin that you would recommend, that may be able to view the records on my behalf, please?  Thank you for your assistance.

In my experience in the last month there are many missing records on the new data base hosted by Find My Past and Ancestry. Is the 1838 record for Rosanna in Tisraran? What is the day and month and I will have a look at the register.

Hi Roger, thank you for your kind offer.

There is a baptism record for a Rosana Coghlan - daughter of Michael & Mary (can't decipher Mary's maiden name but according to Ancestry it is Market) with sponsors Charles Coghlan and Ellen (Mulvaney or Mulroney ??).  This baptism is on the 4th October 1838 in Eglish; Diocese of Meath; County of Offaly.  I was made aware of this baptism by another person also researching the surname of Coghlan or variant spelling in Kings County.  Both Michael and Mary are recorded as the same surname on the abovementioned baptism.  I have a copy of this entry which I located online at the NLI.

According to information I have Rosanna claims she was born in Tullamore in 1837 - but I wonder if Tullamore may have been the largest town that was closest to where she was actually born?

I have been attempting to go through the RC parish records at the NLI but most of it is difficult to read.  

Some years ago I hired a researcher to look for the baptism of Rosana/Rosanna - she viewed the parish records for Fheuragh, Tisaron & Galen without success. She did find one Rosana but with a different father.  It may be possible that my Rosanna was not baptised - or perhaps her baptism never made it into the books. And likewise for her siblings.  Any record for Rosanna consistently record her father as Michael.

With the current information I have I would like to see if there is any mention of my 3 x great grandfather in the Revision Books to see if any other names that I have come across might be recorded by association.  

Do you know of any researcher in Dublin that you could recommend please to check out these books for me?

The Eglish record could be Market but I'm wondering if it is Parke? The first letter is hard to read but the letters "arke" looks clear. Ellen appears to be Mulrooney. I live in the USA but my suggestion would be to go to the National Archives site. I believe they have researchers listed on the site.

Hi Roger, many thanks for checking for me.  Some of the writing for the various parishes is very difficult to read, and it is no wonder that there will transcription errors.

With regard to the USA, do you know if the State Archives hold files on individual people please?  I am interested in New York state in particular.

Hi Roger, can you tell me what cemetery would be closest to Kilcolgan More or Kilcolgan Beg - and Ballylin, please?  And are there any MI books which have been done for these areas please?

There is an RC cemetery in Tisraran. I tried to find the current parish and I believe it is Ferbane. It took a while but I did find a web site for the parish. I would e-mail them and see if they can assist with 19th century cemeteries.  http://www.maryt.me/page1.php

Hi Roger, I tried posting an email to the web page of the link you sent me but I kept receiving an error message.  Perhaps they are in the process of updating their site.  However I contacted the library and they have been able to help me.

I wanted to let you know that I have been sent an entry from the interment register - I feel confident that I have found the right man.  Name, age, location all tie in.  Just waiting on further information to confirm if I am on the right path or not.
