Sarah Elizabeth Trotter was born to John Rolston Trotter and his wife Mary (Nee Beattie). She married Alfred Beattie who was visiting from Australia in 1886, (Alfred was a son to Hugh Beattie who migrated to Australia in 1842). Alfred and Sarah were second cousin. Sarah and Alfred left Ireland to live in Australia later the same year they married. Alfred worked for some time with his father and brothers at the family vineyard ‘Brooklyn Vale’ and their wine processing plant at Wagga Wagga, NSW. Sarah had 3 children with Alfred; they were John, Mary and Cecil they also raised another foster daughter named Dorothy Flanagan. Sarah and Alfred spent their senior years in Kogarah NSW. Sara's daughter Mary (known as Marie) became a nationally known portrait artist with some of her works housed in the Australian National Library collection in her married name of McNiven.
