hi, I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I am looking for any information regarding my gg grandfather, Daniel Aldridge, born abt 1857 in Kinnitty.  He had moved to Manchester by 1881 as he is on the 1881 census with his wife Mary, the census shows that he and Mary were born in County Offaly.  I have managed to find a baptism of Daniel Aldridge on 01st October 1857 in Kinnitty, on the baptism record it shows parents as Henry Aldridge and Winifred Hogan, I do know for a fact he named my great grandmother Winifred after his mother. I've not been able to find details on his marriage to Mary, but have done extensive research in Manchester, so they must have married before leaving Ireland. I would love to come over to Ireland to research Daniel and Mary further but feel I just don't have enough information at present. It would be great if anyone could help me get past this brick wall.  Regards Gill

Hi Eamonn, thank you very much for replying to my post and for supplying the information, it's certainly given me more to go on than I currently have. The family were Roman Catholic, I just wish I had a bit more information to work with. Thank you Gill

  • Hello, I have found a family of aldridge in seir kieran which is part of Kinnitty parish, family name is spelt Oldridge which is not uncommon at that time ,  1821 census which shows your Henry at age 14 in 1821, brother kieran at age 19, Edward at 16, sister Elizabeth at age 25 and their father Edward aged 60 years, No mention of a mother here so could be deceased but will check further for you, hope this helps, ps the address for this family is Brachmore Seir Kieran,

  • Hi, thank you so much for that information, I believe that there was not many Oldridge / Aldridges in Kinnitty, so am hoping that will make my search for my ancestors a bit easier.  I have just ordered the birth certificate for my great grandmother Winifred Aldridge, so hopefully this will show her mothers maiden name as all I know at this point is her name was Mary and she was born in County Offaly.  I am hoping to visit County Offaly in September so am desperate to get as much information together beforehand.  Once again thank you so much for your help.  Gill

      • Hi Eamonn,

Thanks again for the information, it all helps and is very much appreciated.  I have been in contact with Offaly Historical & Archaeological Society and they confirmed the information I had (which wasn't much) and I've since found out he had 5 siblings. With their information and the links you have so kindly posted, it's all helping me immensely.
