If anyone is researching the family of Roger “Rody” Carney married to Margaret Britt (daughter of John and Mary Britt) with children Patrick (born about 1828), Michael (born about 1834), Edward (born about 1840), Margaret (born about 1841) in Shinone, please feel free to reach out to me.  I am a descendant of Patrick.  The family appears to have left Ireland in about 1844 for Birmingham, and then on to the USA.

Rody and Margaret may have also had a son named William; I find him in England at a British East India company barracks in the 1851 Census.  He states he's from Shinrone.  His military record says that he boarded the ship that was to take him to India, but he never arrived.  Either he went absent before the ship sailed or while en route, or died along the way.

I do not know much about my Britt family members, but checking the Tithe documents it appears that they stayed in Ireland, at least for several years after Rody and Margaret moved away.

Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

I hope that someone else researching the family name will be in touch with you. In the meantime, I wanted to invite you to add your ancestor's details to our XO Chronicles. You can learn more about it HERE and it might be another avenue to consider so that your ancestor's details can be seen by others.

    Best wishes
