According to the 1901 Census Matthew Young was a fishmonger. He lived at Tramore Old Road, Waterford with his wife Mary Anne and children Mary Anne, Annie, Lizzie, James, John and Bridget Angela. All the the family were from Waterford with the exception of Mary Anne who was from Kilkenny. The couple were married for 13 years by 1911 and had 7 children, with 6 living by that time.
The family lived in a 1st class house.
