Christopher Armstrong was born in Ballinamallard in County Fermanagh Northern Ireland. He was baptised in the Magheracross church in Ballinamallard. His parents were Christopher Armstrong and Mary Wilson.

According to family record, he came to the US in 1845 where he spent the winter in Cape Vincent New York with family.

He then moved to the Milford area of Ontario where he met and married his wife Jane McCellan.

After 20 years of homesteading there and 12 children later, they moved the family to Valley township Iowa in 1875. There they bought land and started a farm. The farm is still in the family today as well as the one room school house they build in 1876.
