Michael and his brother, Patrick, were the first of the nine siblings to emigrate to America.
By 1860, they made their way from the East Coast to Wisconsin, where they settled down, farmed the land, and raised their families.
They brought over their remaining 7 siblings by 1868, all of whom settled in New Haven, Connecticut.
Their mother died in 1867, their father in 1868. The farm in Kilcommon remained in the Meara family. Patrick and Sarah are buried in a family plot in the Old Aglish Churchyard.
