My great grandfather, Robert Millar and his son, Albert Millar, bought this Station House when the railroad closed. My great-grandfather had a Mill previously, started in 1890. They then started Millar’s Mill and it was a working Mill that employed many people in Clifden. It was torn down and now is a shop in downtown Clifden, Millar’s Connemara.
Patrick Joseph Grogan was originally born in Killucan, Westmeath, 14 Jul 1880. His profession was that of a Railway Porter. He married Annie Wallace, born in Streamstown, Galway bef. 14 Jul 1880 on 02 Jun 1903, St. Joseph, Clifden, Galway. When employed at the Clifden R.R. Station he was the Station Master.
In 1926, Patrick, Annie and their family of nine children emigrated to Canada and lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hi deidre. Thanks for this information about the succession of the Station House. I am assuming you were referring to the building featured in my submission. Would your great grandfather and his son have purchased this in the mid-1930s then. I believe that I know Millar shop in downtown Clifden but must look at my photos to be sure.
Do you know what your great grandfather did with the Station House when he had it. I would be most interested.
