Bridget Galvin : Short Biography

Bridget GALVIN was born circa 1842 in Ballycarroll, in the parish of Doora-Barefield, County Clare, the daughter of John GALVIN a farmer and ANN (Nancy) HASSETT. 

She had siblings- John GALVIN (1841), Mary GALVIN/HOGAN (1845-1928), Margaret (1846), Ellen (1855), Ann KERIN (1856-1930) and Catherine KELLY (1858-1938). 

Bridget GALVIN sailed to New South Wales circa 1866 (ship unknown)  and was followed by her sister, Mary, who arrived per RACEHORSE in 1866. 

On 9 July 1868 Bridget GALVIN married James GOUGH at St Marys Cathedral, Sydney. After the birth of their eldest son, Nicholas, they moved to the south coast of New South Wales, settling in Moruya where six more children were born.

Bridget GOUGH (nee GALVIN) died on 6 Jan 1909 and was buried at Moruya Catholic Cemetery. 

Her obituary reads- Once more it is our painful duty to chronicle the death of one of our old and respected residents in the person of Mrs James Gough, of Gundary, Moruya, which took place at her residence on Wednesday night. Deceased came to this country from County Clare, Ireland, in 1866, and after a residence of two years married Mr James Gough of whom she leaves two sons and two daughters: Messrs. Nicholas (Wollongong), James (Moruya); Mesdames Sinclair (Balmain), and Fox (Wollongong). Mrs Gough was an affectionate wife and mother, a quiet neighbour and a strict adherent of the R C Church. Deceased, who had been in delicate health for some time, succumbed to heart failure and dropsy. The funeral, which was larely attended took place yesterday (Friday). [Moruya Examiner 9 January 1909]
