I'm looking for information on the Horty family as well. Specifiaclly, I'm looking for information on Michael's father, Patrick. I have a tithe applotment record of a Patrick Horty renting 21 acres from the Vicar of Tuam parish in Knockavanny in 1831. I have found other information that he had a daughter named Catherine Donaghue and they lived together in 1871 in Heywood, Lancashire, England. It's hard to tell if any of this information is accurate. There seem to have been multiple Patrick Hortys in this area during the early 1800s.

Michael Horty (Harty?) came from Galway. I don't know if it's County Galway or the city of Galway. He was born in 1823. He arrived in New York City, United States aboard the ship "Yorkshire" 27 October 1847.
He moved to Iowa and became a farmer.
He married Bridget Ford (also from Galway) in Iowa and they had six children. Patrick, James, Mary, Michael, William and lastly John. John Coleman Horty is my maternal Great-Grandfather.
