I'm am very curious about this entry. My maternal grandmother's father James Carroll was born in Limerick City, baptized at St John's the 27th Jan 1861. He emigrated to Chicago in 1872 thru Boston with his mother Elizabeth Leo Carroll and two sisters Ann born 1863 and Ellen born 1866. They joined father Jeremiah Carroll who was a shoemaker. I have found a marriage record for Jeremiah and Elizabeth in Fedamore in 1844, a baptism record for Jeremiah in Herbertstown & Hospital 25 Feb 1815, and a baptism record in Fedamore for Elizabeth Leo 13 Mar 1817. I find a birth record for a child of Jeremiah and Elizabeth name Edward with baptism in Mungret 23 Jun 1845, but have no further information on this child. There are no further births for this couple until the children I can find that came to Chicago with either father Jeremiah (not found on a passenger list yet--travelled with daughters Mary Elizabeth born 1856 and Jennifer born 1858, both in Limerick ) or mother Elizabeth. I have been trying to find a connection to a Patrick Carroll, born about 1855 in Illinois who seemed to have died before 1900. Patrick married a girl named Mary Ellen Begley in West Quincy, MO in 1881. They had two children: John Michael b.1888 in Shelbina MO, and Irene Mary Carroll b.1891 in Bloomfield (Adams Co) IL. Because their parents Patrick and Mary Ellen seemed to have died before 1900, it is hard to spot their children John and Irene. But eventually, Irene is connected to my grandmother, the daughter of James Carroll. They were both married in quiet ceremonies in the the rectory of the Kansas City MO cathedral in Jul 1915, one after another. Since I've learned this fact, I've never been able to connect Irene with my grandmother Catherine Carroll (b.1891 in Chicago). I've always believed there must be a connection between these two Carroll girls, but I've never been able to make it. Could this Edmund born in 1804 be related to my Jeremiah, born 1815? I look forward to hearing more. (And I heartily apologize for how confusing all this information reads. I never know when I'm putting in too much or too little!)

Edmund (1804) Carroll was born in Effin, Kilmallock, Limerick, Ireland. He married Catherine Quinlan (1794) in Hospital, Limerick on 22 February 1824. Exactly how Edmund and Catherine came to meet, is unknown. Edmund and Catherine emigrated to the United States with his five children and several nieces and nephews in 1849.. The ship, Cato, manifest lists the family and their ages as: Edmund Carroll 45 years, Christine.Carroll 40 years, Patrick Carroll 18 years, John Carroll 17 years, Micheal 13 years, Mary Carroll 8 years and James Carroll 7 years. Also listed among the 263 passengers are Mary Carroll 20 years, J. Carroll (f) 19 years, and A. Carroll (f) 18 years. Their niece, Bridget Coughlin, also made the trip with them. She was a bridesmaid for Edmund and Mary's son Patrick when he marrried Mary Falvey in Madison Vounty, Illinois on 5 October 1851. Bridget went on to St. Paul, Minnesota where she became, Sister Josephine, an Ursuline nun, and opened a convent. Their travel to America during the height of the Great Famine begs one to wonder if their passage was paid by a cash-strapped landowner trying to clear his land of tenants.
Edmund and his faimily landed in New Orleans, Louisianna on 25 June 1849. They met up with their Uncle, Ed Casey who ran a hotel. In 1850, the Illinois Central Railroad offered cheap farm land in Illinois in their expansion west. So, Edmund, his family and Uncle Ed sailed up the Mississippi River and settling in Macoupin County, Illinois. Edmund's family settled on farms near the town of Bunker Hill. It is said that four Carroll families owned farms at a cross-section that was called Carroll Corners. Other cousins and nephews moved to St. Louis Missouri. Edmund and Catrherine also donated land to the Catholic Church in Bunker Hill for a cemetery. Edmund died in Bunker Hill before 1870. Catherine went to live with her daughter and died in 1873.

I have reviewed both of my Carroll families, Chicago and Staunton, Illinois. I can find no connection between my Carroll families and yours. Edmund's parentage is questionable because what I have found differs from information passed doen from my family, Should I find any connection I will definitely contact you and share what I find.
