John Brines (O'Brines) or ? 1805

Back to List

My great-great grandfather was born sometime around 1800 to 1810 in Ireland. I believe it was northern Ireland, perhaps even in Fermanagh County. He immigrated to the United states probably in the 1830's along with his siblings. It is not known whether they all immigrated at the same time or seperately over time. Many of his siblings settled in Philadelphia. Others including my John migrated westward to St. Louis where they worked on riverboats for a number of years presumably to save money to buy farms in Missouri further inland. The members of the family for an unknown reason changeed their name from Brines to Bryant. Those remaining in Philadephia did not change their name.

The name could have been O'Brines and they dropped the "O". Other variations could have been " O'Brien" or "Byrnes".

I have family trees on MyHeritage.com and MyAncestry, although the MyHeritage site is most up to date. I have been unable to trace the family roots and pinpoint with any certainity where they originated from in Ireland, nor when exactly they departed or what city they arrived. I'm unable to determine their parents names. Anybody who might be able to shed any light is most welcome to assist.
