Joseph (pictured) and Ellen lived at 7 Glinsk with 4 children.
On the 1901 census Ellen is not listed, and now Joseph's sister Margaret (Known also as Mary) DOB 1847 spinster is living with them. On tracing through the Milford records Ellen died on 4 November 1895 of Typhoid in the Workhouse Infirmary. Only being in there 16 days. Ellen Reid’s parents : James Reid, Leatbeg and Alice Dill (maiden name) Reid are listed on her birth entry.
Moving onto the 1911 census Marjory is no longer on the census and discovery makes it that she left in 1909 for America.
Marjory settled in America and had married Patrick Hartnett, and had 5 sons. Gerald was killed in Vilshofen Germany on 7 June 1945. Son Joe, married Peggy and had a daughter Mary and son Mike. Son Bobby married Anne. Francis - no information and Walter who became a priest and who died in 2006 in America.
Marjory and Mary Ellen met again on 17th May 1951 after 42 years in America after she travelled from Scotland on the Queen Mary to see her sister again after a lifetime apart.
Going back to Joseph and Ellen son Joseph I have no trace on what happened there. James never married and lived at Gartnavern, Coolboy, Letterkenny as a farmer until his death in 1970. Mary Ellen (Helen) Reid Power Walker (DOB 16 May 1886 - 4 Nov 1965) married Thomas Walker in Edinburgh 13 November 1920. I do not know when she left Ireland for Scotland. Don't know if anyone spotted but Mary Ellen and her mother both died on 4 November 70 years apart. Rather spooky I would say to that.
So it seems that the Reids, Dill and Powers are all related on the Heritage Tree. All sets linked through Leatbeg and Glinsk which answers my questions on why my mother had kept an old postcard from both places.
Carrs, Peoples and McNutts all seem to have been friends to my grandmother Mary Ellen.
I have listed below names that I havent yet connected to the tree but I reckon they are Joseph;s siblings and most likely other cousins.
Joseph Power dob 1850 dod 1935 (who is the Head of family I talk about above).
Margaret Mary Power dob 1847
Samuel Power dob 1840 – daughter Eliza Jane power dob 1872 dod 1914
married Robert Dill 24 March 1892 (his father Samuel Dill)
Dill dob 1882
I also have been told somewhere in this is a Jeannie Power and Dill Power who are cousins.
Robert Dill (his father Samuel Dill) married Eliza Jane Power from Leatbeg (her father Samuel Power)
Married 24 March 1892. Witnessed by Robert Dill and James Buchanan.
