I might have a connection... Do you know if the Creaven family had a relative from the Tuam area named "Katie Creaven"? According to details on a Philadelphia Passenger List, at age 50 (so, born about 1857), Katie accompanied her niece, my great-great grandmother Delia Farraher/Farragher, to Philadelphia, PA in Nov/Dec 1907 and Katie's closest relative in Tuam was her nephew Michael Costello (another last name I've seen pop up here on Ireland XO!). Perhaps Katie is Patrick's sister or aunt? Interestingly, the next line down on the manifest is for a Margaret Reilly, age 19 (born 1888), whose closest relative in Ireland is her mother, also named Margaret Reilly; however the entry on the manifest is crossed out, so it sounds like young Margaret did not go to Philadelphia. It seems like with all these common names there must be some connection.... just not sure how all the puzzle pieces fit together. - Melissa in Massachusetts, USA

Patrick Creaven (or spelt Crevan or Craven in other documents) according to the 1911 Census lived in Carrowntanlis, Tuam, Galway. He was married to Ellen Reilly. He was described as a 'calf jobber' or cattle dealer. He was born in 1871. He had six children: Mary (1897), Thomas (1899), Norah (1900), Ellen (1903), Bridget (1907) and Margaret (1911). They also had connections to Ballygaddy Road (Ballyguddy Road?) Tuam. My husband is Brendan Fox and these are his relatives. His grandmother was Norah Creaven, who married Thomas Fox in 1918. We have no information at all about the Creavens and would love to make contact.

Hi Melissa, thank you so much for getting in touch. I have an account on Myheritage.com. Are you connected to this site?
I have checked things out and so far I am unable to find details of a Katie Creaven. Sadly I haven't been able to make headway on the Creavens before Patrick Creaven (born 1871). But, she could indeed be related. Regards Emer.

However I did come across the marriage cert (1894) for Patrick Creaven, Cortoon to Ellen Reilly, Carrantanlass. Patrick's father was named John Creaven. The witnesses were Thomas Creaven (brother?) and Margaret Reilly (Ellen's sister?) Ellen was born in 1871. If your Margaret Reilly was born in 1888, she would have have been 6 yrs old at the time of the wedding, so too young to be a witness.
