Catherine Kelly was the third daughter of John and Bridget Kelly, of near Curramore, Kiltoom, County Roscommon, born about 1834. The family, with daughter Bridget, emigrated to Boston in the early 1850s. There she met and married fellow Irish immigrant, Michael Sullivan (of County Kerry) in St. Patrick Church, Roxbury, on 6 November 1856. They had three children: John Lawrence (b 1858), heavyweight boxing champ; Anne Elizabeth (b 1865), my great grandmother; Michael Francis (b 1866). She died of heart disease on 30 August 1889 and is buried in the Sullivan-Lennon family plot at Old Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan, Massachusetts.
