I know very little of Margaret’s life in Ireland. I do not have information on where she actually lived or if she had siblings. Her parents were John McMahon born Circa 1825 and Margaret Alexander born Circa 1826 supposedly Co. Tyrone. I do not know where John McMahon was born or when they died. I was also told by the family that Margaret Alexander’s father was Squire to the Lord of Caledon (cannot verify).
I have copy of a reference given to her by Father Eugene McKenna in Enniskillen, Fermanagh dated 2nd July 1879 before she left to come to Australia on the ship “Conore” arriving in Sydney on 9th October 1879.
I know nothing of her early life in Sydney, other than she was a servant, until she married James Walsh in St Patricks on the hill in Sydney NSW on 18th January 1887.

I understand James Walsh was born in Limerick, Ireland.
They had six children, James Lewis, Margaret, Mary, John Francis (my Grandfather), Katherine Josephine and Gertrude Claire.
She had a grocery shop in Station Street, Petersham and also later on, a home at 85 Station Street, Petersham..
Her first born James was killed being run down by a horse and cart when he was 8.
The family attended the Catholic Church in Lewisham, Sydney where her husband, James was Sacristan.
