Edward was a merchant in Thomas St. and St. James' St. He then lived in Mountjoy Square until his death in 1879. He was a Guardian of the South Dublin Union for many years, and is reported in the weekly minutes published in The Irish Times. In the final year of his life, he was elected Alderman to Dublin Corporation in the Usher's Quay ward.
