Death record from Archives Office of Tasmania | Australia | VIEW SOURCE |
My great-great-grandfather was born circa 1805-1808 in Ahoghill in Antrim Ireland,
He joined the Royal Artillery as a gunner and driver but was pensioned off due to a serious leg injury. In 1841 he was living in Fifeshire wih his wife Ann and newborn son Alexander and was working as a weaver.
He seems to have dissapeared off records for about 11 years but had other children in that time.
He came to Tasmania as a prison guard aboard the convict transport Aboukir in 1852 and settled at a place called Brighton or Pontville as it was back then and died in 1888 in Hobart Tasmania.
I dont know if his family were from Ahoghill or from somewhere else and settled in the area, I also dont know if he had any siblings or other family but I thought this would be a good place to start.
