Michael Christopher Giblin aka the Rev. Fr. Cathaldus Giblin was a Franciscan Scholar, Irish historian and patriot. Devoted to the Irish language, he was also proficient in Latin and Greek.
Born and raised in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, he joined the Franciscan Order in Killarney 1933 and was ordained in Rome in 1941, while furthering his postgraduate studies (having graduated with an M.A. from UCG). He was awarded his PhD in Rome in 1945 and returned to Ireland, living in Killiney, Co Dublin.
He was a prolific writer (see Dún Mhuire Killiney 1945-95 for a comprehensive list of his works) and consummate teaching professor, much revered by his student Tomás Ó Fiaich. He died suddenly in 1989.
