Back to List

Andrew Belton was born on 24 Dec 1881 to tin plate worker Andrew Belton and Anne Caulfield in the village of Rathdrum, County Wicklow. He was the only boy in a family of nine.

His father died in 1893 when Andrew was only twelve. His mother began taking boarders into their house to earn money. Andrew did not follow in his father and grandfather in the tin plate trade, and instead started working as a painter in his late teens. In 1901, he was living with his mother.
