  • This is my 3d great grandfather. I have not been able to ascertain who his parents were.  He was a wine importer; Thompson and Sons Company, Dublin, Ireland

One of many ads in local papers:  FOR SALE, At GEORGE THOMPSON**, - (Late William Speer’*.) Wine and Mineral Water Importer, No. tB (13?), Eustace street. SELTERS, German Spa, and Harm Waters.      June 23, 1795 - Saunders's News-Letter - Dublin, Dublin, Republic of Ireland

In 1795 he bought William Speer's Seltzer Water Store.  He may have started out selling East India sugar at Dublin Auction houses in 1805, then later years built up to a storefront. In 1810 he was auctioning off figs, raisins, boxes of blooms and chests of turkey. In 1810 he had a storefront at no. 7 Temple Lane, Dublin, IRE.  Kathleen Donovan

In 1795 he married Elizabeth Barclay of Eustace Street, ( Record set: Ireland Diocesan and Prerogative Marriage Licence Bonds indexes 1623-1866, Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records Subcategory: Marriages & divorces, Collections from: Ireland, Findmypast).  She was the great granddaughter of Robert Barclay, who wrote "The Apology for the People Called Quakers. Together George and she had the following children that I can verify: Henry Thompson, B:1801 Ely Place Dublin, IRE; Anne Thompson, B:1802, died at her sister's house; Elizabeth Thompson, B: abt 1805, Ely Place Dublin, IRE, and the following for which I don't have verified information: George Thompson, B: 1806

HENRY, D: April 19 1885, burial place: Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin.  He married Letitia Adelaide Black, in August 1835 at St. Georges church, Belfast. They had at least one son, George Black Thompson. And, possibly a daughter, Catherine Sophia, B: 1842.

ANNE, D: December 16, 1865. see the following:  Cork Examiner December 18, 1865      On Saturday morning at Croagh Rectory, Limerick, the residence of her brother-in-law, the Rev. William Archer, Miss A Thompson, aged 63.

ELIZABETH, my 2nd great grandmother, D: 10 Apr 1878, in England.  She married Rev. William Lamb Archer at her family's church, St Peter's, Dublin, IRE on 03 Mar 1829.  They had nine (9) children. One of which, Rev. William C Archer, came to live and Minister in America.  He married Hannah E Sutton and they had 6 children.  Their son, Raymond Orland Archer,  married Kathleen A Apgar and birthed my mother, Darlene Alexandria Archer.

GEORGE: possibly died June 8 1884, at Hotel National Lucerne, Switzerland, in his 75th year, George Thompson Esq., (not positive this news article was him).  I found at:   http://www.irishmanuscripts.ie/digital/Kings%20Inns%20Admission%20Paper…
