Hi my name is Peter Berryhill. Do you know how the name Berryhill was attached to your grandfather name?
References
George Berryhill Acheson (my grand-father) emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s. He married Mary Morris and they has six (6) children: Kathleen Aubrey (deceased), William A (deceased), Helen Berryhill (deceased) who married Hubert Frederick Peckham, Florence Ethel (deceased), Frances Patricia (deceased) and George Robert (deceased WW II). My parents were Helen Berryhill Acheson and Hubert Frederick Peckham.
I have traced the Acheson family back to Alexander Acheson (1797 - 1867) wife unknown. I believe there may be a connection to the Achesons, Viscounts and Earls of Gosford but I haven't been able to identify the connection. It is easy to trace the Earls of Gosford but not their brothers and sisters. If you have any information that might help, I'd be very appreciative.

Hi Peter
My name is Michael Peckham, son of Helen Berryhill Acheson whose father was George Berryhill Acheson who was born on September 15, 1874 in Drumcree, Drmsna, County Leitrim, Ireland. James Acheson was born in 1782 I believe. His wife's name was Mary. James is the great, great, great, great, great granfather of George Berryhill Acheson. I received the following write-up about the Berryhill name from my mother. I do not know who exactly drafted it. Anyway, I hope you can trace this back to you lineage. Let me know how you do.
Best, Mike
BERRYHIILL Connection to the Acheson Name
Your great, greab Granfather James Acheson lived in Cavetown Croghan, County
of Roscommon; his counby town was Boyle, which he visited about once a week -
a distance of about eight miles. Sometimes he rode an immense horse; the brute
was six foot, four inches taII. Sometime he drove a tax cart. He met Miss
Berryhill nearly every time. They agreed to get married and Jimmie called on
her father and asked for her hand, which was refused; ihe Berryhills were
Quakers and they were a very fine old family. While Acheson was Anglican, old
Berryhill wanted his daughter to marry a Quaker. But the young lady wanted
Jimmiel so they had a runaway marriage. Later on they were forgiven. It was a
happy marriage. There were two sons and two daughters. The:Mother inslsted on
keeping her own religion. Jimmie attended a couple of times but he could not
sbomach it, so he attended his own church at Croghan. Mostley he drove her io
her church and waited outside and drove her home again. There was no cooking
done on Sunday. The maids were sent home Saturday night and did not return
until Sundayr night. If there was a sick person within miles, she visited them
and brought aII kinds of goodies. The people just worshipped her for her
goodness, her family since have used her name and will continue to use it for
coming generations. She lived to a great old age. Her husband lived until
ninety-seven years. I saw him when I was a little fellow of four years - I was
then living with my Grandmother a short distance away.Mike Peckham

Hi Mike , sorry for the delay because I'm presently working with a genealogist in Ireland on my Berryhill family tree. I've got GREAT news for you and myself.
I've always wondered about the Berryhill/ Acheson relationship because even my family story ( written down 3 generations ago) discussed the connection. I can't explain it properly in writing but I'll give you an explanation . You can contact me at peter.berryhill@sympatico.ca or I would love to contact you if you're comfortable with giving me your phone number. I live in Montreal with my wife. My number is 514 996 2896. We ARE connected! I am passionate about family research, all my 4 lineages are complete except for some the Ireland ( before that Scotland) berryhill's . Here's my story and I'd love to here more about yours .
1-Alexander Berryhill came from Scotland to Ireland after 1745. He married ? before 17602-Quinton Berryhill( 1) born to Alexander and ? Around 1759/60 and he married ? Around 1778
3- Quinton Berryhill(2) born to Quinton 1 ( 1779)- NOW as well Mary Berryhill born to Quinton1 1789.
4- Mary Berryhill marries your James Acheson 1807/8 Roscommon and there's your story and history about Mary berryhill's origins.
My lineage is as follows , as per above Mary is yours and her brother Quinton 2 is mine--- Quinton>Samuel>Stephen Melisha >John Charles >Edward Frederick and now me , Peter Berryhill . Nice to meet you. As I mentioned I'm in Montreal and yourself? Love to here about the Acheson..take care
