THIS could be anybody, couldn't it - the classic univeral Irishman.  A priest once told me in jest that 'Duffys are like vermin, they're everywhere'.  With that in mind, and being aware that such a common name has parallels wherever you look, I am entering this info about my ancestor, only because whomever added him to this community (I did not) entered dates that match the vitals of the Thomas Duffy I know.   Up till now there is no evidence of his birth location in Ireland, although there are consistantly DNA matches to people that have ancestors known to be from Monahan.  He migrated circa 1848-50 to the USA and landed in Baltimore, where he met and married Mary Heagarty.  They move to Washington, D.C. sometime before 1860 and lived there for awhile and started a family.  He was a carpenter by trade and briefly was in business with a James Kane.  After the civil war, he packed up and moved to San Francisco, CA., where my great grandfather James was born.  Some time in the 1880s part of the family (including Mary) moved back to Washington, DC., leaving behind Thomas and 2 sons, Edward and Francis (Frank). He died in a soldier's home located outside of Los Angeles.  What happened to Edward an Francis is unknown.  That's the short story of my Thomas Duffy.
