Hello,

My Imigrating ancestor is Benjamin Wilson who was born in Moyestown, Co Offlay (b1815- died 1893)In Zane township Ohio, USA) his father was John Wilson (b 1774- 1834died)

John married Mary Ann Murphy  they had Edward, Benjamin, Ann, Thomas M, John,Alice, Maria,Sarah, Eliza,Charlotte, George (only lived 2yr), and Jane.

My research says Alice and Maria were both married somewhere in Birr.

I would be thrilled to discover which church in Birr, to connect with anyone who could tell me about Moyestown, or discover distant relatives in the area.

I realize Wilson is very common.

  • Moystown townland is located in the east of Co. Offaly (formerly King's County) near the towns of Banagher and Cloghan and these are located to the north of the town of Birr, which was called Parsonstown. Moystown is in the civil parish of Tisaran.

    Do you know what religious denomination your Wilson family were ?
    The 1901 census shows a mix of denomination for the various Wilson individuals at that time - most Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic with smaller numbers as Presbyterian, Methodist etc
