I am looking for birth, marriage and migration information for my three times great grandparents Sampson Brady born abt.1771 Antrim and Dorathea (Dorothea) Morton born abt.1785 Antrim.

Sampson and Dorathea were Protestant and had 6 children in Antrim between 1814 and 1825. They left Ireland for Canada sometime between 1825 and 1831. Sampson was listed in the 1825 Piggot’s Directory as Watch maker, Main Street, Antrim and he was in Montreal in July 1831 when his youngest son James died according to the church record).

Sampson’s parents are unknown. Dorathea was the daughter of Dr. John Morton (b. abt. 1749 and d. Feb 20, 1826 Antrim, parents unknown) and Dorothy Beresford McCullough (father Dr. James McCullough d.1788 Antrim and mother was “Margaret”).

I live in Canada so I would appreciate any advice.

  • You are correct that he emmigrated from Ireland in 1831 and settled in Montreal. After a number of years, around 1837-1838 he, his wife and their two youngest boys, John Morton Brady and William Henry Brady, all moved to New york. Where sampson eventually became a citizen in 1840, and dying there one year later. the death date you have (12/17/1852) is for his son sampson brady who died in montreal. his family eventually moved back to montreal.

I have lots have further info about his descendants and lots of documentation if your interested. Contact me.
