Patrick's parents, Bernard McGuire and Catherine Duffy, were both born in Ireland around 1811. I don't know much about Bernard. Patrick's death certificate in Scotland lists Bernard's occupation as farmer. Catherine's parents were Barny Duffy and Biddy Fox.
I found Patrick and his family in Scottish records in the Glasgow area, so I'm guessing his family came from the north, but all the records only say Ireland. Patrick first appears in his record of marriage to Margaret McDonagh in Coatbidge, Lanarkshire, Scotland, 9 July 1864. He and Margaret appear in Scottish censuses in 1871, 1881, and 1891 with their growing family. The 1881 census gives Patrick's name as Peter.
Patrick died in Scotland on 8 February 1894, at Glengowan by Airdrie, at the age of 55. He was a coal miner. Margaret and several of their children came to America in 1894, first to Missouri, then Illinois. Their second child, Bernard, is my great-grandfather.
