Michael McAweeney/McAweeny possible year of birth 1824/1827 Kiltubidd Leitrim.
On the 6th March 1846 he was convicted of the offence Appearing Armed, Unlawful Assembly and compelling to quit along with Francis McPartlan, John Grieve, Owen & Francis Reynolds and John Leddy. Michael and the other young men were sentenced to transportation to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania, Australia) for 7 years. They were transported on the Lord Auckland convict ship. The Lord Auckland arrived in VDL 25th August 1846.
Michael went on to marry and own property in Tasmania (VDL). One of his sons Michael Jnr is my Great Grandfather. By the time of his marriage his surname becomes McQueeney.
I would love any information about his parents, siblings, date of birth etc.
Thanks Kimbra McQueeney
