Andrew McDonnell was baptized in Leighland Bridge R.C. Church in Feb, 1823. Parents were Michael McDonnell and Catherine McCormick. Sponsors were Andrew McDonnell and Sarah Wall. There is an address after the sponsors name but I couldn't make it out. There was other McDonnells on the same page with the same street name. Wondering if they are relations?
At the age of 12 Andrew ran away from home to Dublin (so the story goes). He had thrown a rock at the landowners geese, got a beating from the landowner and then received a beating from his father.
At that point he decided to leave home and headed to Dublin hidden in a tinsmith's cart.
He arrived in Ontario, Canada in 1846. He lived in the town of Richmond near Ottawa. He attended St. Philip’s Church, married Amelia Rath in 1849 and travelled up the Gatineau River to Stag Creek now Low, Quebec. He farmed three hundred acres, was involved in politics and later was the postmaster in Farrellton,Quebec
He died on January 13, 1911 in Low, Quebec.
His family is now spread across Canada and the United States.
The McDonnell name gradually became McDonald.
