John Draper Perrin was a prominent entrepreneur in the mining industry. He was born in Medicine Hat on the 26th of August, 1890 to Sgt. William Perrin, a Dublin man, and Sarah Lytle of Rahoe, Co. Donegal.
From 1906 to 1908, he worked in the Canadian Pacific Railway land office. It was after this that he embarked upon his career in mining. In the Manitoba town of Bissett, he financed and established the San Antonio Gold Mine. He served as president of this company for 31 years, from 1931 to 1962. The compnay was extremely successful, gaining noteriety on the Toronto stock exchange. By the mid-1930's, John Draper Perrin was one of the wealthiest people in Canada. He was a well-respected business man who served on a number of advisory boards, as well as being the president of several mining companies.
John Draper Perrin was also a prominent philanthropist. He is remembered for his generous contributions to hockey teams, and his support of children's hospitals and war efforts. He was also passionate about sport and was a member of several hunting, fishing, and yachting clubs throughout his life
In 1914 he married Ruth Taylor Litle (1888-1986) with whom he had four children. John Draper Perrin died on the 19th of September 1967 in Winnipeg.
