I located the marriage record for the parents on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I only located one additional baptismal record for a sister Mary in 1850. The 1901 and 1911 census for Crettyard showed a Michael Daly family. Not sure how he was related to Jack but I did locate an 1860 baptismal record (see below) and my guess is that Michael was a first cousin to your Jack Daly.

Thank you for taking the time to search for that information. There is every possibility that Michael is a 1st cousin of John. I had the marriage details already.

It'd be great to get in contact with some of the family in the area.

What is the Castlemore Roscommon name at the bottom of your message?

I found a Michael Daly on the Griffiths Valuation in Clonbrock which is just north of Crettyard, not sure if this is him though.

Is there anything else that you think I could use to find out more information?

Hi Anthony,
I saw Daly headstones in the old Kilgorey graveyard earlier today as I was looking for locations of my own ancestors there but to no avail.
I didn't catch their forenames, but there aren't many marked graves there so it stuck in my mind. They may be relations. Kilgorey graveyard is a very old graveyard which is rarely used for burials anymore but it served the Crettyard area and there's a holy well there.
There is a lot of useful info on the Irish genealogy website for birth certs marriages death certs, etc.

Thank you for this. I've had a look online, but I cant see any records. Any idea of the closest catholic church to there?
I'll probably need to go there myself. My uncle was in Crettyard last year, but he was only passing through. He met the parish priest in a shop and he said he could come check the records, but he didnt get a chance.

There are 2 churches in the parish of mayo doonane both of the same name which serve Crettyard. Not sure why it's called Mayo Church though as it is in the townland of Monavea.
If you search the civil records on the Irish geneology website and narrow down your search to the Carlow District you may find something. Or else try Queens County as it was known back then or abbeyleix.
Some of the village of Crettyard itself sprawls into Kilkenny also so there might be a chance his local church was Moneenroe.
The online Church records are photocopied and very hard to read.
