Mary Josephine Martin (nee Byrne) was born in Dublin c1893 and died in Manchester in 1929, leaving 3 children in an orphanage. We think her husband was called Patrick Joseph Martin but we have not found a record of the marriage, and he was not the father of the children.
Her parents were Andrew Byrne (c1854 - 1900) and Barbara Byrne (c1865 - 1930). Her siblings were Ellen (b. 1890), Johanna (b. 1888) and William (b1885). The family lived at addresses in West John Street, John Dillon Street and Vernon Street.
My grandfather was one of Mary's children and grew up in an orphanage near Manchester. I would love to know a bit more about the family and why Mary came to England. We know that Johanna came to England to register Mary's death but we wondered why she did not take the children back to Ireland.
